U.S. immigration jobs with USCIS can be in a number of areas. USCIS is responsible for administering benefits and services, including adjudication of applications for benefits, petitions for the immigration of relatives and workers, work authorizations, adjustments in status, asylum requests, and naturalization. USCIS offices and immigration officers have the responsibility of adjudicating and processing a wide range of applications and forms required to allow people to come to the U.S.

The Department of Homeland Security's mission, and that of its immigration-related agencies relies on the skills and capabilities of its employees. Employees participate in programs designed to maintain a well-trained workforce, with advancement opportunities consistent with the needs of each agency. Employees are kept abreast with new techniques and are given opportunities to improve their job skills and knowledge. Most of the training is completed at the USCIS Academy in Glynco, Georgia.

Leadership Center in Dallas

The Leadership Development Center in Dallas, Texas, provides training for supervisors, managers, executives and human resources professionals. Currently 11 courses are offered: Basic Supervision, Advanced Supervision, Basic Management, Advanced Management, Balanced Leadership, Effective Writing, Employment Issues for Executives, Dealing with Difficult Employees, Service Excellence, Effective Presentation Skills, and Organizational Leadership.

In addition to leadership training and officer corps, career development training is offered to employees who have homeland security jobs in a variety of fields. These courses include: Retirement and Mid-Career Training, Time Management, Project Management, Accelerated Reading, Listening Skills, Grammar and Proofreading, Editing, Technical Writing, and Administrative Officer's Training. Employees can also participate in career development programs, including the Federal Executive Institute, Executive Potential Program, Women's Executive Leadership and New Leaders.

ICE is Largest Investigative Arm

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. ICE is primarily a law enforcement agency and its mission is to protect America and to uphold public safety by targeting the people, money and materials that support terrorist and criminal activities. ICE provides security for federal buildings and enforces the country's custom and immigration laws.

ICE's enforcement mission is carried out by a variety of law enforcement, security and intelligence professionals. In addition there are hundreds of professional and administrative functions supporting ICE's mission. ICE has approximately 15,000 employees in 400 offices across the U.S., plus 50 locations outside the country.

ICE is now recruiting for Department of Homeland Security jobs as entry-level Criminal Investigators (Special Agents) in limited numbers through direct contact with Special Agent recruiters at each of ICE's Special Agent Charge offices. These vacancies are not posted on the Office of Personnel Management's USA Jobs website.
